Since we get so many inquiries about our products and services, we have found that the best (most thorough and quickest) way to assist you is through e-mail where our goal is to respond within two business days. For placing orders, the quickest way is through our secure on-line shopping cart.

However, so long as you realize that responses may not be quite as thorough as those given in an email and certainly not as thorough as one of the Consulting Services where the architect is involved, you are still welcome to call us anytime 251-341-0509 and either talk to us about your concerns or leave a voice message if we are not available. Barry (in charge of Customer Service) will try to answer your questions the best that she can. If she finds that your questions are outside of her expertise and require the intervention of the architect, then she will most likely do one of the following:

• Get back with you after she has reviewed your questions with the architect if the questions and concerns are not too detailed to understand. (She may recommend you email your concerns if they are detailed or numerous to avoid misinterpretation.)
• Recommend that you engage the architect directly with one of our many consulting services - House Plan Selection, Custom Changes Consulting, or Custom Design.
• Recommend that you purchase the Construction Review Set to go over your questions with your builder or local design professional who will in most cases be able to answer your detailed questions by interpretting the plans for you.

As a rule (and we know there are plenty of exceptions), we request that you review the following notes about contacting us:

• If you are a custom design client that we are already working with, you take the highest priority, send us an e-mail or leave us a phone message and we will get back to you ASAP.
• If you have already placed an order and have changes or concerns about this order, send us a detailed e-mail or phone message and we will get back to you ASAP.
• For others who are contemplating our products or services, while we love to hear about your site and ideas for a home, as well as to discuss our products and services, we must set some limitations in doing so due to the abundance of inquiries and the commitment to existing clients to get their work out on time. Please e-mail us first with your questions. Or at least realize that a thorough response often takes time.
• We do not provide detailed phone consulting except by prior arrangement unless you are already a custom client.
• When you e-mail us, please remind us which of our products or services you have already purchased or received so that we know how familiar you are with certain subjects, a given plan, or with our Custom Services Questionnaire. You may include a phone number, best time to call, and time zone, but we cannot guarantee that all calls will be returned within your requested time. If it is after office hours, the response will most likely be by email or the next business day.
• If you have numerous questions about a specific plan, you may be able to answer them yourself from the Study Plan or Construction Review Set.
• Please be specific with your questions, and if we have previously exchanged information, please remind us of that or include that content in your information to us.
• Of course if we are already working with you on a custom design, you can contact us anytime!

Questions about a specific plan: You may first ask by e-mail specific questions about a plan after you have ordered the Construction Review Set. We realize that the Construction Review Sets do not yet include the Custom Energy Recommendations that come with blueprint and CAD file orders and that you may therefore have some concerns. We usually will answer a quick question by e-mail, but in-depth review falls under our fee based Consulting and Review services which is the first stage of Custom Changes.

Can you explain xyz to me? We get many of these inquiries. While we can appreciate the fact that you may be trying to learn more about passive solar in general, our business is designed to provide consulting to our clients. We wrote The Sun-Inspired House because of the abundance of inquiries. You may e-mail or write to us with questions, but we cannot guarantee a response. If your questions are consulting in nature, we will point this out and set a limit on information provided. Please refer to our book The Sun-Inspired House, the FAQ web pages, or more information links.

Web site problems or items that are unclear. We certainly want to hear about problems you encounter with our web site or shopping cart. E-mail us first with your comments, then if necessary we will call you.

Customer Service about blueprints, erasable vellums, and CAD files previously ordered:

E-mail us with the following information: your name, approx. date of purchase, house plan name, what you purchased, and specific questions you would like answered. (While we do reserve the right to limit the amount of customer service unless you have previously paid for that as part of our services, we do want to help you obtain a well-built home. We are especially willing to assist you with any clarifications your builder may need regarding our plans and specs.)

Phone calls:

Sorry, but we are just not staffed for phone consulting. Many of the questions and concerns are so detailed that without first spending at least an hour studying your site, a possilble design you are considering,, your particular climate, and questions on materials and construction methods,, that they fall into the fee-based consulting category. Once you engage us in one of our many types of consulting, the questions you may submit are endless although proportionate to the amount that you have paid.

If you are more comfortable placing an order by phone, you are free to call in your credit cards order at 251-341-0509, but note that since we often telecommute, there may not be anyone in the office and you may get an answering machine. Our schedule changes daily, but as a rule there is someone in the office M-F 8-3:00 CST except on holidays and school breaks.
