following "green" principles, home owners, builders, designers, and
architects can design and build comfortable, environmentally friendly homes that
will yield significant savings on utility bills for their owners. The Green
Building Guidelines is full of useful design tips, explanations, and references
on topics ranging from energy conservation to improved indoor air quality to the
most inexpensive and sustainable construction materials and of course passive
solar is covered also. If you've ever dreamed of building a green home and would
like to know about the most important apsects to consider, this book is a valuable
blueprint for getting started. A message from a client who
just received a copy of the book: "I
have read many things on green building but none as recent as this book. I am
sure to find some good ideas to incorporate or refresh myself on some areas. ...I
will put to good use. " - Steve The
Green Building Guidelines is SBIC's (Sustainable Building Industry Council) fourth
edition of sustainable residential design guidelines created in cooperation with
the National Association of Home Builders. Written in plain language with complimentary
illustrations, case studies, and check lists, the Guidelines is a valuable resource
for builders and even buyers interested in producing or purchasing energy- and
resource-efficient homes. Each of the Guidelines' chapters reviews specific design
strategies as well as offering construction and marketing tips, checklists, and
references to many additional resources. Most importantly, the Guidelines encourage
builders, designers, and home owners to think about these issues in an integrated
and holistic way. The Guidelines were produced by the Green
Building Guidelines Committee of the Sustainable Building Industries Council with
support from the U.S. Dept. of Energy's Building America program and the National
Renewable Energy Laboratory. Full and half day workshops
have been developed to review and teach builders, designer, homeowners, etc. about
the contents in the Guidelines. If you are interested in coordinating a workshop
n your area, contact www.sbicouncil.org directly. Debbie Coleman, Architect with
Sun Plans is one of many trained to give these workshops and she has also helped
develop the introductory PowerPoint presentation that may assist you in showing
others what the workshops can include. Visit

summary that she presented at the American Solar Energy Society conference in
