The Atrium RS3 is another variation of our most popular Atrium
series. They feature the light well that brings light into the center
of the home. The Atrium RS3 is the reverse plan with the living areas
on the east and master bedroom on the west. To maximize comfort and reduce
costs, the foundation is a concrete slab. To allow for a tractor, lawn
equipment, or a workshop, the garage has been extended to house 3 vehicles.
The front of the home is designed to face north east.
First Floor
The kitchen is open to the dining as well as the central atrium and hearth.
The dining area opens onto a screened porch and deck that wraps the south
side of the home. What a wonderful place for Sunday morning brunch! The
front room by the entry has opportunities for a guest bedroom, away room,
or home office.
Second Floor
The quaint loft above with low sloped ceilings has a study area that
overlooks the hearth below and the atrium above. The front dormer is a
cozy nook for meditating or reading. The quaint bedroom and bath make
this loft a child's dream.
Daylight Basement Option
If your land slopes to the south, let us design a daylight basement for
you with our custom services. See the Atrium 2 daylight basement for an
example of what could be done. Garage The attached garage is separated
from the house by an area with a mudroom entry and mail nook or pet area.
This will be a catch all family entry to keep the mess out of the main
part of the house.
Construction Info
The vaulted ceilings are the same as the Atrium house plan with 9' ceilings
in the areas below the loft. Because of the concrete slab for thermal
mass, the masonry walls around the master bedroom and sunroom would not
be needed for comfort. Instead the floors could be covered in stone or
brick pavers. Our blueprint orders come with custom energy recommendations
that adapt the home to your climate, but this Atrium RS3 already has been
somewhat adapted for moderate, middle latitude climates making construction
more affordable.
Modification Ideas
Since these ideas may affect energy performance and structural integrity,
they should only be undertaken with professional assistance.
- Flip the laundry and half bath to put the laundry near the mudroom.
Then add a tub or shower to make a full bath.
- If your lot was narrow, two of the garage doors could be moved to
the front. Perhaps the third one could then be on the south for the
workshop area.
