First Floor
The large front porch faces north and opens into an airlock entry foyer
with French doors to the great room. The side porch opens to the west, but
there is also a reversed option available for the side porch to face east.
One entire wall is designed to have a fireplace and entertainment center.
The entire south wall will make this area feel like a sunroom. Even the
pantry in the center of the kitchen is designed to stop at 8' like the rest
of the interior walls. It has a fold out ironing board installed next to
the sewing nook in the dining area. Of course this could be eliminated to
place a larger table. The kitchen is designed with an abundance of pantry
space and no upper cabinets for a country kitchen feel. For dishes, there
is space for a glass-front hutch between the dining and kitchen. The wall
behind the stove area is a 4' high brick wall. This could be extended up
for those who like a more private kitchen and more cabinets above. The fireplace
is shared by the great room. The large master bath has turning space for
a wheel chair without the institutional feel. The laundry is conveniently
located next to this bath area and the master closet. On the side with good
north light is a small study area that is connected to the great room with
French doors. The kitchen and master bath area also have views to the north.
The mudroom/utility area connects the house to the parking area. It also
houses the mechanical systems for off-the-grid living.
Garage Option
The optional two-car garage that comes with the house plans has a shop
area at one end with a large shower pan for dog washing. The garage is connected
by a covered walkway to the mudroom or it could also connect directly to
the porch.
Construction Info
The entire great room, kitchen, and dining area have vaulted scissors
trusses with no interior walls up to the ceiling. The master bedroom
also has vaulted ceilings and a skylight over the bed area for stargazing.
