Water Music 2
The Water Music 2 home is designed with the front to face south. The angled walls welcome you into the main living area that captures fantastic north views. The corner east and west windows in this main living area expand the views even further.
First Floor
The arch in the kitchen looks out into the sunroom and on through the windows on the south side. The east family entry is close to the outside and kitchen making this house dog and kid friendly. The deck is perfect for outdoor entertaining or just enjoying the view. The doors to the master bath from the foyer and to the master bedroom from the study nook allow for good air circulation as well as convenience. The north/west facing master suite has corner windows to allow soft lighting for reading and relaxing. The additional downstairs bedroom on the northeast is multi-purpose and flexible. Use it for a study, guests or small child nearer to the parents.
Second Floor
This space can be finished now or later and be used as a walk-up attic until then. The bath is conveniently located so that just the center area can be converted to two bedrooms, or a bedroom and game area. The eastern half can also become another bedroom for a total of 5. High on the end walls are windows that aid in cooling. The winter sun will awaken you in the south bedroom and the window seat will be a cozy place to soak up the sun.
Carport/ Storage
The optional two-vehicle carport/storage is located to the south of the house on the east side so that the family will enter through the attractive mudroom. It should be located far enough away to not block low winter sun. The carport also makes a convenient area for drying clothes, cookouts and a great place to enjoy the shade.
Construction Info
The house is designed for 6" walls with a variety of types of cavity insulation and additional rigid insulation to fit the climate where the house will be built. The main roof is rafter framed so the upstairs ceilings will be sloped. The first floor is wheelchair friendly with 3' doors in many places. Thermal mass stonewalls line the sun room/foyer.
Modification Ideas
Since these ideas may affect energy performance and structural integrity, they should only be undertaken with professional assistance.
  • Construct the home with even thicker walls
  • Delete some north windows in cold climates
  • Add a fireplace or wood stove to the great room
  • Frame the side wings of the second floor with roof trusses
  • Modify the house for full ADA handicap accessibility
  • Add a detached garage to the east and modify the bath/mudroom for entry to the house from the garage
