Inspired by a similar Prairie Dog design, the clients required a slightly larger plan, but with the same airy feel in the sunny south living areas. The central, cozy breakfast nook visually connected to the living areas also boasts an expansive view from the eastern to western horizons - capturing passive solar gain all day long!
Ruth and Doug thought that another of our Prairie Dog plans was very close to what they were looking for in a home so they contracted with us to adapt the design for them primarily by making it a little larger. Their builder's attention to detail both in terms of finishes and energy efficiency made the construction process enjoyable since they could were comfortable that their best interests were being me.
Thanks Susan Teare,
professional photographer, for giving us permission to post your
photos
on our web site. She really knows how to capture the light!
Here's what Ruth and Doug have told us:
"...We absolutely LOVE the design and the siting! On Dec. 20th
the sun fell less than 24 inches from the center "backbone" wall
at 11:30
AM. Needless to say the whole room was in bright sun.."
"I had to share with you....the setting sun actually
streams through one of the south-facing windows in the living
room, right
through the arch in the west wall of our kitchen to the extreme
northeast
corner of our house (the guest bedroom)! This is the first time
we noticed
it and were very pleased! The light flow in this house is
amazing, and
on sunny days like today, we definitely enjoy the solar warmth!
We love
our house and have loaned our copy of The Sun-Inspired House
(book) with friends
who ask about the design. Thanks!" ~Ruth
